Homework Syllabus - Semester 1

Week  One (Due Sept. 12)
Supplies for class: 2 #2 pencils, 1 large eraser, and a folder with inside pockets for handouts
Write your name in five different fonts/styles. Ex. Smith, Smith, Smith, Smith,Smith 
Week Two (Due Sept. 19)
Come up with 10 descriptive words and images that are personally meaningful and unique to your identity. You can also bring in some magazine cutouts. 


Week Three (Due Sept. 26)
Use line to create value: 
hatching, cross-hatching and dots. 


Week Four (Due Oct. 3) 
Circles – using pencil create values within the circles. 


Week Five (Due Oct. 10) 
Wavy lines - using colored pencils, you can create values and make patterns. 


Week Six (Due Oct 17)
Half magazine drawing: choose an image in a magazine, cut in half and finish the other side in pencil. 


Weeks Seven & Eight (Oct. 31)
Listen to your favorite song or read aloud your favorite poem. Now, illustrate it in a drawing and include text somewhere. 


Week Nine (Due Nov. 7)
2 separate drawings of a friend or family member (from direct observation); same pose – one blind contour & one modified contour”


Week Ten and Eleven (Due Nov. 21)
Draw yourself 10 years from now; including your surroundings, possessions, etc. 


Weeks Twelve and Thirteen 
(Due Dec. 5)
Free draw – create one drawing of your choice, think about composition, balance, form and space. 


Week Fourteen (Due Dec. 12)
Pour wax, paint with coffee, do something unexpected in your sketchbook. Be careful, have fun!


Week Fifteen (Due Dec. 19)
Make a timeline for your life. Be sure to star key events 


Week Seventeen (Due Jan. 16)
Blackout poetry


Week Eighteen (Due Jan. 23)
I love myself page - write 20 things you like about yourself - feel free to doodle. 


Week Nineteen (Due Jan. 30)
Free Draw - fill up the entire page
